Position Overview
A Truck Driver is responsible for safely transporting goods from one location to another, ensuring timely delivery, compliance with state and federal regulations, and maintaining the vehicle and related paperwork in good order. The role may involve local, regional, or long-haul routes, depending on the employer.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Operate and drive commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) to transport goods, materials, or equipment to assigned destinations.
- Plan and follow efficient routes; use GPS, maps, or other routing tools.
- Perform pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections of vehicle and trailer; ensure safety of brakes, tires, lights, and other mechanical systems.
- Secure loads properly to prevent shifting or damage during transit.
- Load, unload, fork-lift or pallet jack (if required) goods safely and efficiently.
- Maintain accurate logs, mileage reports, fuel usage, delivery receipts, bills of lading, and other required paperwork.
- Adhere to all relevant safety rules, traffic laws, and company policies.
- Maintain contact with dispatch and report any delays, damage, or other issues encountered during delivery.
- Keep the vehicle clean, both inside and out; ensure cleanliness and maintenance of vehicle systems (fluids, lights, etc.).
Qualifications
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) : Must hold a valid Arizona CDL of the appropriate class (A or B) depending on the vehicle type. Dreambound+2Yuma Truck Driving School+2
- Age : At least 18 years old to drive intrastate; 21+ for interstate driving or to transport hazardous materials. Arizona Department of Transportation+2Yuma Truck Driving School+2
- CDL Endorsements : May be required depending on cargo/type of transport: options include Hazardous Materials (HazMat), Tanker, Doubles/Triples, Passenger, etc. AZ Job Connection+1
- DOT Medical / Physical Certification : Must pass a Department of Transportation physical exam and maintain a medical certificate on file. Yuma Truck Driving School+1
- Clean Driving Record : No history of serious traffic violations; good driving record is essential.

- Language / Communication Skills : Ability to read, understand and comply with highway traffic laws/signs; communicate with dispatchers, customers, etc.
Preferred Skills & Attributes
- Prior experience driving commercial trucks, especially over long distances.
- Knowledge of state/federal regulations (FMCSA, AZ DOT).
- Basic mechanical knowledge to identify minor issues.
- Strong time management and route planning skills.
- Dependability, punctuality, integrity.
- Ability to work independently and under minimal supervision.
Work Environment
- Long hours, possibly overnight or on-call.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Physical demands: loading/unloading, occasionally lifting heavy goods.
- Time spent sitting for extended periods while driving.
