Job Description – Rigger

A logistics and engineering company which specializes in providing technical and logistical services, with emphasis in the Semiconductor sector, managing our clients’ highly sensitive and precision manufacturing equipment.

Position Profile:                                         

The Rigger is responsible for setting up and operating rigging equipment, ensuring the safe movement and installation of heavy objects. This role requires expertise in using various lifting and rigging tools, interpreting load charts, and adhering to safety standards to prevent accidents.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:      

  • Prepare and Inspect Equipment: Select and prepare rigging equipment such as cables, pulleys, winches, and hooks. Inspect rigging gear to ensure it is in safe working condition and complies with safety regulations.
  • Plan Lifting Operations: Collaborate with engineers, crane operators, and site supervisors to plan and execute lifting operations. Determine load capacities, calculate angles and weight distributions, and develop lift plans.
  • Set Up Rigging Systems: Assemble rigging systems by connecting lifting devices, securing loads with slings, shackles, and chains, and installing safety mechanisms to prevent accidents.
  • Operate Rigging Equipment: Use rigging equipment to lift, move, and position heavy loads. Operate cranes, hoists, and other machinery to safely transfer loads to the desired locations.
  • Monitor and Guide Operations: Direct and guide crane operators during lifting and positioning operations. Communicate through hand signals, radios, or other means to ensure precision and safety.
  • Ensure Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, including OSHA guidelines. Conduct risk assessments and implement measures to mitigate hazards.
  • Perform Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on rigging equipment. Report any defects or safety concerns to supervisors and ensure that equipment is stored and maintained properly.
  • Document Operations: Maintain records of rigging operations, equipment inspections, and maintenance activities. Prepare reports for management and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide Training: Train junior riggers and other personnel on safe rigging practices and equipment usage. Stay updated on industry trends and new rigging techniques.

Manufacturing:

  • Machine Installation: Install and align large manufacturing equipment and machinery on the production floor.
  • Maintenance Support: Support maintenance teams in moving and installing heavy machine parts.

Shipping and Logistics:

  • Cargo Handling: Secure and move heavy cargo within warehouses and onto transport vehicles.
  • Ship Loading: Operate rigging equipment to load and unload ships and freight containers.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Certification in rigging from a recognized institution is preferred.
  • Experience: 2-5 years of experience as a rigger or in a similar role in construction, manufacturing, or related industries.
  • Certifications: Certified Rigger Level I, II, or III through the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) or equivalent.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in using rigging equipment and machinery.
    • Knowledge of safety regulations and lifting guidelines.
    • Ability to interpret blueprints and load charts.
    • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
    • Good communication skills for directing lifting operations.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy objects, work at heights, and operate in various weather conditions. Must have good hand-eye coordination and physical stamina.
  • Additional Requirements: Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to different job sites as required.

Riggers often work in challenging environments, including construction sites, factories, shipyards, and entertainment venues. They must be prepared to work in various weather conditions and at significant heights. The job requires physical strength, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety.
